Job Description for Apparel Prototype Assistant - The focus of this position is to assist the manager of our prototype sewing department. Ensure all prototypes are running through in a production friendly manner and to troubleshoot sew issues or potential sew issues with development team.


KEY RESULTS AREA:
To ensure that prototypes sewn are production friendly or repeatable.  Carefully document all sew details including trims and fabrics used for each prototype making sure they function correctly and are tested before production.   
To keep the client satisfied.  Follow through with client requests. Ask “WHY?” so you fully understand the client’s needs.  Make suggestions if the direction does not make sense or can be improved for production.

The day to day duties will include: 

  • Assist prototype sewing department – prototype assistant, prototype cutting and prototype sewers
  • Communicate with Design Managers concerning daily project priorities.
  • Hit deadlines and department goals. Communicate with Design Managers concerning deadlines.
  • Pass off projects to sewers communicating important sew issues and objectives.
  • Create and update CDS In House Tech Packs with photos, trim lists and cut lengths, sew order/instructions
  • Quality Check completed sewn prototypes and discuss repairs or sew/pattern issues with development team.
  • Finalize In House Tech Packs (after Size Sets are sewn) for production and hold a “Pre-Production Pass-off Meeting” to review prototypes that are about to go in to production.   Make sure CDS has an approved sample that is tagged with sew notes or issues. 

Additional duties included but not limited to:

  • Prepare prototypes for sewing by pulling trims and creating sew documents for sewers & tech packs.
  • Proof the “Pre-Production Fabric & Trim” sheets for each prototype to ensure they are accurate.
  • Checking in as sewers sew prototypes and assist them with sew issues or recuts.
  • Create a list of sew issues and possible solutions for Design Manager to review.
  • Follow up with patternmaker for any immediate or minor pattern changes.
  • Photograph prototypes for tech pack and client review.
  • Create a “Prototype Photo Document” for each prototype.  This document is for the client and includes a detailed description of prototype, photographs showing front & back views and a list of sew issues or notes.
  • Tag prototypes with sew issues and neatly pack and ship.
  • Ensure that if there are changes in trims or fabric that they are tested before production.
  • Follow through with details concerning pattern changes or sew problems and make sure they are resolved before the next prototype is sewn to achieve ultimate efficiency.
  • Assist prototype packaging. Pack each prototype with care making sure to it is done same way every time.  Work with Development Team to improve look and function.

Job Description for Apparel Designer and Product Manager -  This position is  a unique hybrid of product development and project management. In this position, the design manager helps guide our private label clients through the CDS 4-step apparel development process. This person works with our internal team to develop products for external client private label brands. The variety of different soft good items range from athletic apparel and medical to children’s and accessories. Communicate with clients directly to provide expertise on the design and development process and communicate with our internal teams to execute project. Each client will have different seasonality and different timelines so ability to manage big picture with several different deadlines is a must. Candidate must be an excellent communicator and great at developing relationships with clients. 2 years sewn product development or design experience required. This includes general knowledge of grading, construction methods, and flat sketching.  


The day to day managerial duties will include:

  • Meet with external private label clients to gather project information, feedback and present CDS deliveries
  • Work with internal raw materials sourcing team to acquire fabrics and trims
  • Work with internal technical design team to illustrate product to meet client vision
  • Work with internal  pattern making team to develop garment patterns
  • Work with internal prototype cutting and sewing team to execute sewn prototypes that meet client specifications
  • Work with internal manufacturing team to transition product from development into production

Apparel Design & Sourcing Assistant

This position is responsible for assisting the Sourcing Manager in working with vendors and data to source raw materials for garment development and manufacturing (fabrics and trims). They are to assist with managing vendor quality and timelines for several different private label clients. Each client will have different seasonality and different timelines so ability to manage big picture with several different deadlines is a must. Candidate must be an excellent communicator and great at developing good relationships with CDS team and outside vendors.


The day to day assistant duties will include:

  • Conduct various domestic & overseas vendors communications and quality

  • Oversee various clients timelines for prototyping trims and production materials

  • Research fabric & trim trends and new technology

  • Attend fabric sourcing tradeshows, travel 1-3 times per year

  • Flat sketching in Adobe Illustrator

  • Create Spec Sheets for various soft good products

  • Research various categories of apparel for our clients to present design options

This position requires a candidate with incredible organizational and communication skills. They will interact with almost every member of our staff as well as multiple clients and vendors on a daily basis. We are seeking a true people person. The position is  responsible for managing the front desk, accounts payable, ordering, shipping & receiving, assisting Design Managers and all departments  with administrative tasks and scheduling and client correspondence.Candidate must be an excellent communicator and great at developing good relationships with clients as well as internal staff.

The day to day duties will include:

  • Client correspondence via phone & email

  • Accounts Payable & Accounts Receivable

  • Material ordering & vendor correspondence

  • Shipping & Receiving

  • Support Design Managers and Prototype Department

  • General office support

Qualifications

1+ years experience with bookkeeping and/or customer service representative.

Four-year degree preferred.

Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.

Takes initiative to improve the efficiency of others.

Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.

Ability to work with all levels of professionals, both internally and externally.

Experience with accounting and financial matters.

Self-managed and capable of coordinating activities without supervision.

Desire and ability to work in a small company environment.

Proficiency with Excel & computers in general is a must.

Proficiency with Quickbooks preferred
